Chief Curator

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is searching for a Chief Curator to serve on its Management Committee, interface with the Board of Trustees, and oversee the daily functions of the museum. A complete job description is available on the American Association of Museums’ Web site.

Event Support Staff

Basic Function and Responsibility
Provide assistance with museum special events.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Event preparation and support during museum functions including exhibition receptions, cultivation dinners, public programs, and corporate events, as directed by the Events Coordinator.
  • Set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, signage and other related equipment as indicated on event paperwork and diagrams, mindful of the special nature of the art museum environment.
  • Assist with oversight of caterers and vendors on-site during events to ensure all museum policies and procedures are strictly followed.
  • Assist with inventories of event equipment, beverages and linens.
  • Handle food and arrange food items on trays.
  • Event related cleaning of kitchens and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Supervision Received
Supervision and training is received from the Events Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • Prior VIP event experience preferred; TABC certification a plus.
  • Must be responsible, reliable and available to work the schedule necessary to support museum events which may include early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills.
  • Detail oriented; ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills required.
  • Must be in good physical condition, able to stoop, lift, and carry objects not exceeding 30 pounds. Job may require long periods of walking and standing.
  • Good personal grooming and professional etiquette required.

This position is classified as hourly/non-exempt.Satisfactory completion of post-offer drug screen, physical, and Food Handlers Certification required. The required uniform will be provided. Gallery Attendant

Gallery Attendant (part-time) needed to provide assistance in the galleries and information to visitors and patrons regarding museum programs, membership and gallery guidelines; assist with response to requests for first aid, power outage, inclement weather and fire alarms. Duties include: Provide assistance and directional information to visitors. Oversee patrons during special events and programs. Insure visitor compliance with gallery guidelines in a manner that promotes a positive visitor experience. Sales Associate

Basic Function and Responsibility
Provide visitor information and sell material pertaining to art and history in an informed and professional manner.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize customer service skills to enhance the visitor experience and meet the needs of patrons; sell admissions provide directional information and brochures about museum programs.
  • Assist visitors with merchandise selection; utilize a working knowledge of the books and merchandise for sale, as well as the location of stock items in the supply area.
  • Accurately process bookstore sales; prepare daily sales report.
  • Be conversant about Museum exhibition programs and activities.
  • Provide visitor services (i.e. check umbrellas, provide photo permits, assist with strollers, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Check merchandise supply in store before each shift, complete restocking form as needed, keep shelves stocked, and maintain required level of reserve merchandise on-hand.
  • Keep merchandise attractively displayed and bookstore areas neat and free of litter; replace torn book jackets.
  • Prepare boxed notecards for sale, price items, etc.
  • Attend departmental meetings after-hours; participate positively in off-site workshops and training opportunities.
  • Assist with counting and preparing bookstore inventory.

Supervision Received
Supervision is received from the Retail Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma; college or art background preferred.
  • Retail bookstore or related sales experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately operate a point of sale system and reconcile daily sales; make correct change.
  • Must enjoy and effectively deal with heavy public contact.
  • Must possess and display a special interest in art and books.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and congenially with customers and staff about museum bookstore merchandise and programs.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, Access database preferred.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all departmental training requirements.
  • Must be responsible and reliable; available to work weekdays, weekends, holidays, and scheduled evenings as needed.
  • Must be able to move merchandise and stock merchandise shelving; must be able to perform warehouse duties as requested.
  • Must present a neat, professional appearance.
