New Parents Tour

Interactive Tour

Are you in need of mental stimulation and adult conversation? Pack up the stroller and join us for a tour designed to introduce parents (with babies in tow) to a variety of artworks at the Carter. This free tour is most appropriate for parents with pre-toddlers, and refreshments are provided after the program. The tour begins at the Information Desk. Reservations are not required, but we recommend that parents call 817.989.5030 to receive helpful instructions and parking information.

Free parking is available in the museum’s lot, which is east of the museum off Camp Bowie Boulevard. Parents are encouraged to park in this lot and follow the sidewalk along the north side of the museum, where an accessible lift is available for your stroller. A museum representative will be there to assist you. Please note: the parking lots and garages in the Will Rogers Memorial Center complex will become paid parking beginning May 1, 2010.

Discover Stuart Davis’ response to the New Mexican landscape and how it anticipates his later attitudes toward the American Scene movement of the 1930s.

Timothy G. Andrus is a Ph.D. candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he is writing a dissertation on the development of Stuart Davis’s art theory in the 1920s. He has presented his research on Davis and other aspects of American modernism at conferences and symposia nationally, including the College Art Association Annual Conference and the Southeastern College Art Conference.

Travel across South and North America as you navigate the galleries, explore abstract artworks, and learn Spanish and Portuguese vocabulary. Special performances, art-making activities, storytime and refreshments round out the afternoon of exciting activities the whole family can enjoy. No reservations are required.

Interactive Tour

This free tour program is designed for adults with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Participants discuss artists, themes, and exhibitions while using artworks to connect to past experiences. Call 817.989.5032 or e-mail access [at] cartermuseum [dot] org to make reservations and receive helpful instructions and parking information.

There is a designated barrier-free entrance near accessible parking for vehicles displaying the appropriate disability permits on Lancaster Avenue (the museum’s south side). If these spaces are full, you may drop participants off at the museum’s Lancaster entrance and park personal vehicles and minibuses for free in the museum’s lot located off of Camp Bowie Boulevard on the museum’s east side.

Film Screening and Discussion

Discover how abstraction is captured in avant-garde film and on the silver screen. This program offers a special look at four short, avant-garde films by Mary Ellen Bute and Dwinell Grant from the exhibition Constructive Spirit: Abstract Art in South and North America, 1920–50s followed by a screening of Busby Berkeley’s feature film Dames (1934), known for its abstract choreography.
