I would like to know if the upcoming Exhibition of Painters of the West will include George Catlin, and especially Charles Russell.

Hi–
On a recent visit I fell in love with the magnificent poster for you current exhibition (Summit of the Sierra Nevada). Museum personnel did not know if/when it might be for sale, and it isn’t listed in your store catalog online.
Whom may I pay/bribe/beg for this poster? I will wash your dishes and shine your shoes.
Please advise–

We would be happy to sell you a Print on Demand copy of the work without even asking for manual labor! You may have noticed that the original work is not particularly large. This means that the largest print I can offer is 11 x 14 inches. If you are interested in purchasing a print of this size, email me at webmaster [at] cartermuseum [dot] org, and I can get you more details. We appreciate your interest and are glad that you enjoyed the show.

Please could you let me know if there is a catalogue for ‘Views and Visions; prints of the American West’

I’m sorry, but unfortunately there is not a catalogue available for this show. There are a number of resources available about aspects of the Carter’s collection, but none of them would correlate specifically with what is currently on view.

I am not sure if you know about all of Harry Learned’s paintings, but I have 2 large oil paintings of his that have been in my family for about 60 years. My parents and I lived in Wyoming when they purchased them around 1950.

One of them is a view of a lake between mountains, a beautiful 23x36 oil signed by Harry Learned 1884. The frame is 6” gold leaf. I have pictures I can email if anyone is interested.

The other has–unfortunately–been severely damaged by smoke and water, although it could be restored, and his signature is still visable. This painting of a stream is approximately 36x48.

I cannot find much information about his works. I’ve found 5 or 6 examples of his works–mostly smaller paintings.

I would be interested in the value of these paintings, and hope you might tell me how to proceed.

Thank you,

What originals does Amon Carter posess of Albert Bierstadt and other ‘romantic’ painters of the old West – and how can I look at all of them online ?

I would like to know if the upcoming Exhibition of Painters of the West will include George Victor Cooper.

This was one of the most wonderful exhibits I’ve seen at the Amon Carter. That museum is a class act. I’ve been going there since I was a child (51 now) and its always been free. Amazing.

Rex–and others who may be reading–this museum is free, but there’s also another benefit that this museum offers. If you purchase a family membership for the year, you receive reciprocal admission for many other museums in Texas and other states. Not only is there free admission with this card, but a lot of museums also offer member discounts in their gift shops. Locally, I’ve used it to get into the Museum of Modern Art in Fort Worth and the Dallas Museum of Art. It’s a great way to support the Amon Carter and it really pays off quickly when one considers the average cost of tickets to these other museums.
