Davidson Family Fellowship

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art invites applications for the 2017/2018 Davidson Family Fellowship. The fellowship provides support for scholars holding a PhD (or equivalent) or PhD candidates to work on research projects in American art that advance scholarship by connecting with objects in the museum’s permanent collection. The stipend rate is $3,000 per month for a minimum one-month to a maximum four-month period of full-time research at the museum. The application deadline is May 31, 2017, for a fellowship period to begin on or after October 1, 2017, and end by September 30, 2018. Housing and travel expenses are to be managed by the fellow, although the museum is available for assistance in locating accommodations.

Established in 1996 by a generous gift from the Davidson Family Charitable Foundation, the Amon Carter’s Davidson Family Fellowship provides support for scholars holding a PhD (or equivalent) or PhD candidates to work on research projects in American art that advance scholarship by connecting with objects in the museum’s permanent collection.

The painting and sculpture collection offers signature examples from movements in American art ranging from early nineteenth-century landscape painting through mid-twentieth-century modernism. The works on paper collection encompasses over eight-hundred drawings and watercolors along with over 6,500 prints from the nineteenth century through the mid-to-late twentieth century. The photography collection—one of the country’s most significant—includes over 40,000 historical and fine art prints spanning the inception of the medium through the latest digital techniques. The book collection features many of the finest accomplishments in illustration ranging from early colorplate landscape and natural history books through contemporary photobooks.

In addition to access to the art collection, fellows make use of the museum’s research collections, including its 150,000-item library with a set of microfilm from the Archives of American Art, several artists’ archives, and other special archival collections, along with access to object files. Fellows are assigned a private office near the off the library's reading room and stacks. During their stay, fellows act as a member of the curatorial team and are expected to actively participate in the scholarly life of the museum. At the end of their appointment, fellows are asked to present research progress in the form of a public lecture, roundtable discussion, or similar.

Successful candidates should have an in-depth knowledge of the history of American art and culture in areas represented by the museum’s collections that is demonstrated in coursework and/or publications. Proposals from qualified individuals in disciplines other than art history are also welcome. Preference will be given to projects that most fully leverage the complement of collections and research resources available at the museum. The award is based on merit and is open to all qualified individuals.

A valid application must include the following five components in English: 1. application form (applicant may sign interactive form with digital ID or scan a signed copy of the form); 2. application letter with a description of the project, including a summarized work plan and length of stay; 3. full curriculum vitae; 4. synopsis of master’s and doctoral theses; 5. three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the museum by each reference. Gallery Attendant Part-Time

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art seeks a Gallery Attendant on a part-time basis. A Gallery Attendant under the supervision of the Security Supervisors, insures the safety of the collection, building, and visitors; assist visitors and ensures they feel welcome in the museum; assist in emergency situations as assigned. Work closely with Visitor Services Representatives to provide visitors with a positive and memorable experience at the museum. This is an essential staff position.

Responsibilities

· Welcome and assist visitors with a high level of customer service, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for the visitors to enjoy their museum experience.
· Observe museum visitors in all situations making sure that they do not touch or endanger works of art, paying particularly close attention during special events with large numbers of visitors present.
· Insure visitor compliance with security procedures in a manner that promotes a positive visitor experience.
· Provide visitors with brief information as needed, which may include information on directions, exhibitions, special events, and the cultural district; refer more in-depth questions to the Visitor Services Representative; furnish/reinforce museum rules regarding photography in the galleries.
· Regularly observe surroundings to detect damage to the museum structure or works of art. Report evidence of damage to Security Supervisor or Control Room Operator immediately.
· Be advised during roll call of special visitors or programs scheduled during your shift; advise your relief of this information.
· Assist with evacuation from galleries, rescue from elevators, and use of fire extinguishers as required.
· Provide security for other locations in the building or grounds; accompany outside vendors and contractors to behind-the-scenes locations and supervise them as they work. Assignments may occur on Mondays or outside regular museum hours.
· Maintain confidentiality; other duties as requested.

Housekeeper Part-time

The Housekeeping staff cleans and maintains the museum buildings, grounds, and vehicles to ensure a healthy and pleasant experience for visitors and to provide a safe, clean work environment for staff and the museum’s collections. This is an essential staff position.

Responsibilities

• Working under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor, clean assigned areas of the museum facility, grounds, central plant, and offsite warehouse facility. Cleaning duties include: sweeping, mopping, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, break room cleanup, and washing windows. Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• Operate vacuum cleaner, buffer, floor polisher, floor scrubber, and pressure washer safely, using prescribed methods and cleaning chemicals.
• Maintain the museum facility to ensure all areas are clean and free from slip, trip, and fall hazards; report maintenance needs to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Check email and work-order system for special cleaning assignments during each shift.
• Cleaning areas immediately that are soiled due to accidents, and assist with flooding hazards, oil or chemical spills, etc.
• Assist with evacuation and emergency procedures as needed.
• Operate dishwasher, load/unload; stock kitchen supplies.
• Weekend duties are required. In addition to routine cleaning, also perform weekend inventory audit and submit to the Housekeeping Supervisor.
• Maintain confidentiality of museum non-public information.
• Perform other duties as requested and as time permits.

Skills and Requirements

• Ability to work congenially with museum staff, visitors, volunteers, and vendors.
• Ability to move items up to 25 lbs.; mobility over large areas. Ability to climb and work from a step ladder.
• Operate power equipment including power washer, buffing machine, carpet cleaning machine, etc. according to established procedures and in a manner that ensures the safety of persons and objects.
• Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary. Must be available for overtime work when necessary.

Sales Associate, Part-Time

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art seeks a Sales Associate to assist with selling merchandise including books, jewelry, accessories, kid’s items, and home décor while providing exceptional and professional customer service to Amon Carter Museum of American Art visitors.

Responsibilities

· Utilizes customer service skills to enhance the visitor experience and meet the needs of visitors
· Engages visitors in conversation about Museum Store merchandise and museum programs, collections, and exhibits
· Promotes the museum and the Museum Store’s mission to visitors
· Operates retail computer programs
· Actively assists visitors with merchandise selection; utilizes a working knowledge of the books and merchandise for sale, as well as the location of stock items in the supply area.
· Builds and maintains customer relationships
· Accurately processes store sales
· Fulfills store, website, and phone orders
· Prepares daily deposits and sales reports
· Checks merchandise supply in store before each shift
· Completes restocking as necessary
· Keeps merchandise attractively displayed and maintains store areas neat and free of litter
